The Township at Colony Park in Ridgeland will sport the metro area's second location of Pita Pit.

Maulik Patel, franchisee, opened the metro area's first Pita Pit in November 2013 in a 600-square-foot space at the food court at the Outlets of Mississippi in Pearl.

Patel plans to open the Ridgeland location, which is across from Sombra Mexican Kitchen and in a strip of businesses that include Metropolitan Bank, Super Shakes and Sportique apparel in early March.

Fast-casual restaurant Pita Pit to open near UTSA in January

Pita Pit

San Antonio's first Pita Pit restaurant is set to open in January at the Shops at Prado, near the university of Texas at San Antonio Main Campus. 

Kam Mehta, a general contractor and developer, is opening the franchise, which is his first restaurant. 

Mehta said he chose the 1,500-square-foot space on UTSA Boulevard and Roadrunner Way because it's close to plenty of hungry students who are also health conscious.

Pita Pit's motto is "fresh thinking and healthy eating." The fast-casual restaurant allows customers to choose from a variety of lean meats and vegetables to build a customizable pita. The restaurant also serves breakfast pitas with eggs. The Idaho-based company has about 500 locations in 11 countries.

Pita Pit opens near Dillon campus

Dillon's Ashly and Travis Cottom have opened Pita Pit, a fast food restaurant, near the University of Montana Western at the former location of Dairy Queen.

Ashly Cottom and her husband Travis enjoyed their college years at the University of Montana in Missoula. The couple regularly dined at Pita Pit and when they spent three weeks in January at the neonatal intensive care unit watching over their young son, they began calling Pita Pit for deliveries to the hospital.
"I wanted to try something different," said Ashly, who at the time was the manager at Wells Fargo Bank in Dillon. "We started thinking it would do really well here in Dillon. This building came up for sale shortly after that so we decided to go for it."

Word spread fast on Tuesday that Pita Pit had opened their doors. The old building, which used to house another restaurant has been transformed into a modern, hip new eating establishment.

The new business is owned by Ashly Cottom and her husband. The two have lived together in Dillon for 5 years (her husband was born and raised in Dillon) and Ashly was managing the Wells Fargo in Dillon, but kept thinking back about enjoying Pita Pit while she was in college.

Anthony Rivera, whose family owns several local businesses, wanted to open a different business, according to a news release. After looking for a healthy food option to open in the community, Rivera found Pita Pit while searching for options online and started traveling to check out stores in Florida, Washington, D.C., and Williamsburg.

BROOKFIELD - Pita Pit owner Roshan Patel hopes to provide fresh and healthy options for customers with the opening of her first business. The Pita Pit will open at 9200 Ogden Ave., next to a Dunkin' Donuts that Patel's father owns.

Patel's family has been in the restaurant franchise business for around 25 years, she said, and she has learned a lot from helping her father and mother with their businesses since she was 9 years old.

Her parents own several Dunkin' Donuts and Subway franchises, but Patel decided to open the Pita Pit location because she sees more people being health conscious.

Pita Pit were recently featured in an article in The Sumter Item titled, "Welcome to Pita Pit". The article was written by The Sumter Item Reporter Jim Hilly based on Interviews with Sumter Pita Pit Owner Ram Venkannagari and Pita Pit VP of Franchise Growth Bill Wilfong coordinated by No Limit Agency. The article begins with info about Ram and how he came to the U.S. from running an Indian restaurant in Paris looking for a way to break into the American restaurant industry and found it with Pita Pit. They provide info about his Pita Pit in Florence, and the new Pita Pit he's opening in Sumter. Welcome to Pita Pit


Ram Venkannagari operated an Indian food restaurant in Paris for 10 years before moving to the U.S. five years ago.

Having friends and family in the area, he said he moved to South Carolina, and once stateside, he began looking for an entry into the American food market.

"I was looking for some healthy food," he said. "I was really impressed with Subway, but I thought people are tired of Subway. I was researching about what to do, and I came across Pita Pit. I had actually tried Pita pit in Columbia and one in Charlotte, and I thought that would be a good option."

Venkannagari opened a Pita Pit in Florence in July 2013, and he will soon open his second Pita Pit at 1029 Broad St., Suite 2.

He said he is attracted to the market in smaller cities because it is easier to connect with the community.

The first Pita Pit franchise in Western South Dakota is set to open for business Monday at 725 Main St., in Rapid City. 

The restaurant is owned by Tim Smith, his parents Steve and Kathy Smith, his wife, Lisa Smith and his friend Justin Henrichsen.

The Pita Pit is a casual quick-service restaurant that specializes in build-it-yourself pitas. With more than 50 ingredients available, there are over a trillion different potential pita combinations that could be ordered, Tim Smith said.

There are some suggested pitas recipes, but customers tend to order their own personalised pitas, said Tim Smith, who attended a two-week training session at the franchise headquarters in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

HUNTSVILLE - Almost from the time Andrew Bridle opened his first Pita Pit in Bracebridge two years ago, he had ideas about bringing the fast-food franchise back to Huntsville.

That dream became a reality on Friday, as the 25-year-old entrepreneur opened his second franchise in Muskoka, at 130 Howland Dr. in Muskoka Commerce Park.

"I wanted to bring my passion for healthy eating up here. Huntsville is pretty progressive too, so it was an obvious choice for me," he said.

This new Pita Pit is not the first one for north Muskoka, as there was an enterprise inthe area around 10 years ago, but has since closed down.

Anyone up for a pita?

Pita Pit owner Chris Volk, who owns three Pita Pits in North Dakota, said he expects Monday, May 19, to be opening day for the restaurant's Brooklyn Park location near the Target Corporation campus and amid restaurants with burgers, pizza and subs. Chris's brother, Tyler Volk, will be the general manager.

The restaurant is located at 9565 Colorado Lane among the storefronts across from Cub Foods and L.A. Fitness north off Highway 610 and Zane Avenue North.

"I am really excited to bring a healthy, convenient alternative to fast food to Huntsville," says Bridle. "I am passionate about healthy eating and fitness and happy to have the opportunity to bring my passion to life in the community."

A winner of the Bracebridge Chamber of Commerce's "New Business of the Year" and "Your Entrepreneur of the Year" awards in 2013, Bridle got involved in business at an early age. He has been flipping houses since the age of 18, started his own contracting company at 21, and then bought his first Pita Pit at 23. The Huntsville location will be Bridle's second Pita Pit. He also serves as a developer for Pita Pit in the Ontario area; he's developed four locations and is in the process of building another four.

Fast-casual restaurants are one of the fastest growing trends in the culinary world - from Chipotle to Panera and even Toledo-based Balance Grille, fast casual restaurants are popping up all across Northwest Ohio. Pita Pit, which was founded in Kingston, Ontario in 1995, has recently expanded to downtown Toledo, with local franchise owners Kate Dake, her husband Tom Dake and her brother Steve Gesicki opening their third location in Northwest Ohio at 30 S. St. Clair St. next door to Home Slice Pizza in the Warehouse District. The Lebanese-style pita restaurant offers a fresh, healthy alternative to traditional fast food businesses that typically sell high-fat and high-calorie meals.

Downtowners will soon have a new choice for lunch in the Warehouse District. A franchise of the Pita Pit is opening March 31 at 30 S. St. Clair St.

Franchise owner Kate Dake said the area's emergence as an entertainment district was appealing when choosing a new location. 

"There's no other service like the Pita Pit over there," she said. "There's Jimmy John's and Subway [on the other side of Downtown], but there's no quick service in the Warehouse District."

EPHRATA - The region's first Pita Pit, a restaurant franchise serving healthy sandwiches and salads, opened here Monday after 10 months of planning by the owner.

Pamela Leseman, a longtime Ephrata resident and local eatery manager, said she'd wanted to open her own restaurant for years before falling in love with Pita Pit's concept of "fresh thinking, healthy eating."

"Everything's fresh pretty much from start to finish." said the 51-year-old Leseman. "I love the decor, the menu and the attitude of helping people eat in healthy ways."

Lubbock has many options for students to choose from when eating off campus, but new restaurants are still moving in.
Among these new restaurants is Pita Pit, which opened Saturday.
Max Bhakta, who graduated from Texas Tech in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in media and communications, decided to bring the franchise to Lubbock.
"My business partner Udaya and I were talking," he said, "and we wanted to open something where we were both from. We both graduated from Tech and Lubbock just felt like home to us."

Pita Pit is planning a third Sioux Falls location.

The restaurant is scheduled to open in mid-March as part of the Remington Pointe development at 69th Street and Western Avenue, according to local franchisee Tom Cruse.


“There’s a lot of small businesses around, a lot of traffic, a lot of rooftops,” he said. “There’s a growing area, a lot of clinics. There’s not a lot for quick casual dining.”

Beef ‘O’Brady’s and specialty shop Cheese World are scheduled to open in the same retail center in January.
