In response, many major brands—including Subway and McDonald’s—have added low-calorie selections to their menus. Fast-casual chain Pita Pit takes healthy eating a step further. In 2013, they partnered with nutrition analysis company Healthy Dining to develop customizable pita sandwiches in the 300-450 calorie range. Pita Pit’s ingredients contain no additives or preservatives, and they back up their health-centric brand culture at every store: none of their locations use fryers or convection ovens; everything is grilled.
